Rugby fans are excited that rugby is back!

 

Hands up who’s excited that rugby is back?! Whether it’s training your local rugby team on a Saturday morning, or watching big match games, England rugby fans are delighted to be back playing and watching their favourite sport.

Pro Rugby Returns

The professional leagues – Gallagher Premiership and Guinness Pro14 – returned in August – good news for rugby fans across the UK.  In the Gallagher Premiership, teams like Wasps, Sale Sharks, Bristol Bears and Saracens are now ready to battle it out to be top of the table. Round 22 completes the regular programme on Sunday 4 October before the semi-finals the following weekend.

The Guinness Pro 14 final saw Leinster and Ulster battle it out for a rip roaring final that saw Leinster lifting the cup in a decisive 27-5 win. A great match for any rugby fan who has missed the thrill of the game!

Six Nations

The 2020 Six Nations is also set to make a return, which is good news for England rugby fans. Matches are due to played between 24 and 31 October.  Eddie Jones’ England rugby squad travel to Italy on Oct 31st to play their rearranged final game in the Guinness Six Nations 2020. Add the date to your diary! 

Six Nations Rugby has also announced details of the brand new Autumn Nations Cup. A completely new and innovative tournament. It will take place over four weekends between November 13th and December 6th, 2020. The Autumn Nations Cup 2020 will be a unique eight-team competition, involving the Six Nations as well as the rugby unions of Georgia and Fiji. One for rugby fans around the world!

Grassroots Rugby

It’s not just the pro leagues who are back. The first weekend in September saw more than 800 rugby clubs carry out improvements and repairs to their club facilities as part of the NatWest RugbyForce Weekend. All part of the plan to prepare for a return to rugby and get rugby fans and players involved. It  was a great way to kick off a new season, for rugby team members, young and old.

NatWest RugbyForce weekend saw clubs and fans working together to spruce up their clubs and facilities. To support the weekend, former England Captain Dylan Hartley, World Cup winner Maggie Alphonsi and former England player James Haskell took part in their own DIY Challenge. Watch it now!
